Visit the beach
Taking a pair of wellies to the beach may not be your first thought when it comes to footwear but we think wellies are ideal for exploring and wading through rockpools and paddling in the sea (especially on more chilly days!)
Go on a scavenger hunt
Let your explorers be mini detectives for the day with an exciting outdoor scavenger hunt. You can go scavenging pretty much anywhere you like – the woods, the beach or even your own garden. Put a list together of items for your children to find and have fun.
Go on a welly walk
What could be better than splashing in puddles or stomping through the mud? Why not take a route you haven’t done before or let your children lead the way – who knows what you’ll discover?!
Try pond dipping
A super fun activity which is all about looking for pond mini beasts and identifying them. Grab a net and see what you can find in your garden pond or you could visit one of the RSPB reserves and take place in an organised pond dip.
Gardening
Gardening is a brilliant activity to involve children in from a young age. It’s a great way to teach children about nature, strengthen their connection to food and encourage them to spend more time outdoors. You could even give them an area to look after and perhaps they could decide what to plant. They’ll also enjoy the satisfaction of having grown something by nurturing it from a seed. Gardening can get muddy so remember a pair of trusty waterproofs to keep children protected.
