DOES THE PICCOLO RANGE INCLUDE ANY ALLERGENS?

We highlight any allergens in the product in bold in the ingredients box on the back of our packs.

Underneath the ingredients box we state any ‘may contains’ information for products which do not contain the allergen ingredients but are made in a factory that handles it. None of our products contain nuts, and our recipes are made in a nut free environment.

HOW LONG CAN YOU STORE AN OPEN POUCH OF PICCOLO?

Once opened, Piccolo pouches should be refrigerated and consumed within 24 hours.

The cap should be replaced and securely screwed on before refrigerating

WHY IS PICCOLO ORGANIC?

Having worked with local and international organic farmers for most of her career, Cat believes wholeheartedly in the benefits of organic food; both for our health, and the impact it can have on our environment.

Organic farming does not use pesticides or herbicides and often means spaces are set aside for wildlife to flourish. We recognise the direct connection between our health and how the food we eat is produced, and support organic farming.

WHY DO PICCOLO RECOMMEND THEIR FOODS FROM 6 MONTHS?

Piccolo follows the WHO guidelines, as well as the UK Government on when to introduce complimentary food alongside breast or formula milk*.

These recommendations come from extensive research on infant nutrition and child development. However, not all babies develop at the same rate, and some parents may feel their babies are ready to wean earlier than 6 months. If a parent feels their baby is ready to be introduced to solids before 6 months, our recipes are safe to introduce from 4 months**, but we would recommend speaking to a health professional in regards to this decision. *http://www.who.int/nutrition/topics/complementary_feeding/en/ **The cherry and yoghurt with oats product contains oats, which may contain gluten, it is not recommended to introduce gluten until 6 months.

POUCHES VERSUS HOME COOKING

Complementary feeding is about introducing babies to a range of tastes, textures, and flavours, and to encourage them to try and enjoy new foods.

At Piccolo, we believe in responsive feeding, and that home cooking and trying a variety of tastes and textures in the form of finger food and purees is all part of the experience of weaning. We also know from spending time with parents, that for those times when you are out and about, convenience matters. For these occasions, we want to provide a delicious, safe and organic alternative that has nothing extra added. At Piccolo, we also follow a Mediterranean approach to eating, and want to offer a variety of flavours to babies, that parents would want to eat as much themselves, as give their baby.

WHAT IS PICCOLO’S STANCE ON SUGAR?

At Piccolo, we never add any refined or added sugar in any form to our food.

The sugars present in our pouches are naturally occurring and come from the organic fruit and vegetables we use. All our products contain 100% natural ingredients, with nothing extra added, and we ensure that all our products are in line with the Baby Food Regulations, working closely with universities and nutritionists to ensure we are always working with the latest research and guidelines on baby food. We believe in a balance of foods and flavours, and following the Mediterranean approach to food and lifestyle. A wide variety of different fruit, vegetables, pulses and grains, a bit of good fat (unsaturated fats) such as olive oil or avocado, a bit of dairy, and occasionally some meat or fish. Our recipes follow this approach, and are a way to experience different flavours as part of a balanced range of foods babies can explore on their weaning journey. With 10% of profit going to food education charitable work, we are committed to supporting parents in the first 1,000 days. The health and wellbeing of babies is core to what we do, and working with the Food Education Foundation, we strive to ensure our pouches contain nothing extra, and taste as good as possible.

WHAT MAKES PICCOLO DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BABY FOOD BRANDS?

We believe that babies should be offered a balance of foods and flavours on their weaning journey.

We follow the Mediterranean approach to food and lifestyle, producing a wide variety of different fruit, vegetables, pulses and grains, some good fats, a bit of dairy, and occasionally some meat or fish. Our recipes follow this approach, and are a way to experience different flavours as part of a balanced range of foods babies can explore on their weaning journey. We work to ensure that we use the best quality ingredients, from farmers we trust, and include a pinch of a herb or spice into most of our recipes, helping with the transition onto family foods. Our ethos goes beyond producing the most flavoursome and nutritious baby food, sitting alongside our commitment to giving back, and supporting parents in the first 1,000 days of parenthood.

Where do the piccolo ingredients come from?

Having worked with local and worldwide organic farmers Cat, and the team believe in knowing where our ingredients come from.

We believe in supporting organic suppliers and in turn the environment. We strive to keep the travel miles of our ingredients to a minimum, and are in close contact with all of our farmers. However, to source some of our ingredients, such as organic bananas and vanilla bean, we have to travel a little farther afield.

Are your products recyclable?

Sustainability is really important to us here at Casa Piccolo.

We use pouches for our baby food as they ensure our organic ingredients stay at their freshest (and so keep our Mediterranean inspired recipes tasting delicious). Using pouches also means we have a far lower carbon footprint than other packaging options, which is really important to us. Our colourful Piccolo pouch lids are recyclable wherever you recycle your plastics, but because the pouches themselves are made from a special mix of materials, it is trickier to recycle them widely. We are looking in to different options and ways to make recycling them easier – and will of course let you know as soon as we have an update. Also our Piccolo Pots, and their cardboard outer sleeves, are fully recyclable
