At Piccolo, we did some research recently that showed an estimated 2.7 million parents in the UK are less than a month away from not being able to put food on the table. We want to do what we can to help these families and so we launched our One for One campaign at the beginning of October.
Since then, we have been able to work with some incredible children’s charities and food banks who are working tirelessly to help support families struggling all over the UK.
We are aiming to donate at least 100,000 of pouches to help reduce child hunger and help to take a bit of weight off parents’ shoulders at a difficult time. Here are just a few of the charities we’re working with:
Trussell Trust has the UKs largest network of food banks which provide emergency food and support to people in crisis. Last year they handed out almost 437,000 emergency food parcels to children and we’re really proud that we’ve been able to give them Piccolo pouches to make sure little babies don’t miss out on vital nutritious food at such an important stage of their development.
The Piccolo team went to visit one of their centres – take a look at how we got on here.
The Sick Children’s Trust
The Sick Children’s Trust believes keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children. They provide free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK. We have been able to have Piccolo pouches waiting when they get in to their new accommodation, so it’s one less thing for parents to have to worry about.
While thousands of Londoners go hungry each day, safe, healthy and usable food is being disposed of as waste. City Harvest collects this nutritious surplus food from all segments of the food industry including restaurants, grocers, manufacturers, wholesalers, hotels and caterers. We have given them thousands of pouches to share with Women’s Refuges, YMCAs and hostels where families are being looked after.
LauraLynn is a hospice for children with life-limiting conditions and residential care for young adults with disabilities. They provide palliative care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Their holistic approach to care ensures the whole family is supported, allowing parents to be ‘Mum and Dad’ rather than full-time carers – and we have been able to give them Piccolo pouches to help get important nutrients in to children who are only able to eat pureed foods.
We are proud and grateful to be working so closely with so many fantastic children’s charities and food banks who play a vital role in supporting our work to help struggling families. But we wouldn’t be able to support them without your help – so we also want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you too.
