The Piccolo Peach

sourcing location

The northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, especially around Bologna, is thought to be the most fertile region of Italy for growing peaches. A small group of dedicated peach farmers have devoted themselves to growing peaches which have the sweetness just perfect for Piccolo’s recipes. We like to use the varieties Red Avem & Baby Gold. A proper peach is truly delicious – it has that impeccable natural sweetness with an incredible perfume and filled with colour.

Go for peaches in season, ripe peaches don’t need to be cooked, they can simply be pureed or given as finger food. They are quite high in water so make quite a loose puree, so mix with thicker fruit and veg or add to yoghurt or porridge.

Peaches are fantastically rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports the immune system. Peaches also offer a rich treasure of minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron.

  • FUN

In Hungary, peaches are called Fruit Of Calmness. Eating them is believed by some to help reduce anxiety.
